“Painting is keeping the surface alive.”
… the art theory that makes perfect sense to me. Beyond that, materials, surface, and movement guide my creations; as well as uplifting or sinking physical sensations primarily around my eyes and solar plexus.
These paintings employ a technique I haven’t found anyone else doing: painting many layers on release liner, making a huge acrylic skin, flipping it over, and mounting it on canvas or panel. The resulting surface reflects the colour so well that no varnish is needed. Larger pieces take three to four weeks and a trip to the chiropractor.
I also paint on Plexiglass, which lends itself to absolute hard edges; so I’ve explored the play of rational and irrational geometry. Here again I seem to have discovered a technique: thickly-applied acrylic gel (sometimes epoxy) back-coated with metallic paint to achieve intriguing depth and texture, like looking through water. I often incorporate dry pigment, found objects, skeletons, insects, and stuff from the world around me.
For over 20 years I’ve been exploring these two unique techniques, working mainly in private. Many of my pieces have sold (marked with red dots) despite my self-promotional skills; but I’ve many paintings to offer. With hope you will see that I am prolific, at home in unexplored territory, and able to respond to current trends.
